Overview

The aim of this diploma is to enable students to acquire currency of knowledge in the health care system and the role of the health professional within New Zealand. Students studying this qualification will examine health from an individual, family and community perspective. This qualification will introduce and broaden expertise in the areas of palliative care, rehabilitation and health of the older adult.

  • Applicants must have completed a Diploma/Degree in nursing and should be registered with the Nursing Council in their country of education
  • IELTS 6.0 with no Band less than 5.5

  • analyze government and governance structures that influence health outcomes for individuals and communities within New Zealand;
  • have an appreciation of the health professional role and responsibilities within New Zealand;
  • critically explore palliative care and rehabilitation from a multi-layered approach;
  • discuss the complexities of aging from an holistic perspective;
  • demonstrate knowledge of health experiences and health outcomes from a social, political and economic perspective for individuals, family and the wider community;
  • articulate knowledge of primary health concepts, health promotion and health wellness strategies;
  • pursue further studies; and
  • work within a wide range of primary, secondary and tertiary health and disability sector services.
