Overview

Palliative care is aligned with the “National Norms and Principles of Practice” that have been developed by the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association. This certificate is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of all health care providers who are working with or caring for individuals living with terminal illnesses.

  • Applicants must have completed a Diploma/Degree in nursing and should be registered with the Nursing Council of their country of education.
  • IELTS requirements of minimum 6 bands overall with no component less than 5.5 bands.
  • IELTS is not required in case the candidate is from an English speaking country.

This program is intended as an enhancement and enrichment program for people who already work in healthcare or human service areas. Graduates of this program may work in healthcare, social services, pastoral care, funeral industry, bereavement counseling and other areas where they can specialize in palliative care. They may also become members of Palliative Care teams in hospitals, long-term-care centers, group homes, hospices, community care agencies, and other areas where the needs of palliative care clients are addressed.

Students may be required to complete a Police Clearance Certificate and a Niagara College Communicable Disease Surveillance Form prior to beginning the clinical placement.
