How many types of employees have you seen in a nursing home? Any nursing home, which is well staffed, is known to have a variety of employees. While you may see a lot of them in action in front of you, some of them are obligated for the functioning of internal matters of the nursing home.

Is it important to know all the types?

A patient should know about the various types of employees for the reason that in any case of neglect, employee knowledge helps a lot. What about nurses? Why should they know about it? Direct Care Employees

Unlike other employees, direct care nursing home staff is meant to provide personal care and attention to the residents of the nursing home. They directly interact with them and they do it on a daily basis. Direct care employees may include-

  • Licensed Practical Nurses
  • Physical Therapists
  • Certified Nursing Assistants

Registered Nurses

  • Assessing the needs of the residents.
  • Creating personal care plans.
  • Working with licensed vocational nurses and licensed practical nurses at the time of planning and execution of personalized care.

For a fact, Registered Nurses have formal nursing degrees. Also, they have 2-6 years of nursing education. Licensed practical nurses and licensed vocational nurses, however, have 1-2 years of nursing education.

Certified Nursing Assistants

If there is any staff that provides assistance to the residents with the daily chores like using the bathroom, hygiene, eating and using the bathroom, that is the Certified Nursing Assistants. They work under the professional supervision of the licensed nurses. Things you should know-

  • CNAs are certified, yet they do not possess the same medical knowledge as of the licensed nurses.
  • They have to complete training as well as an evaluation program.
  • CNAs have to participate in a continuing education course every year in order to preserve the certification.

Apart from the above employees, a nursing home has a Qualified Dietician as well as Admin and Support employees. The former are known to plan and execute the dietary programs. The latter are not meant to directly care for the residents, but render services such as accounting, custodial services, human resources and accounting.
